Forestry programme of the Czech Ministry of Agriculture
Jaromír Vašíček
Like most European countries the Czech Republic has also reacted to international appeals for forest protection and improvement by designing a national forestry programme as the first stage in negotiating and accepting common European forestry strategies. First step in the process of adopting national forestry programme is represented by this Forestry programme of Ministry of Agriculture, submitted to discussion. The sequence of importance of elaborated documents in the sector originates in the currently valid forestry policy of the Czech Republic approved in 1994 and including the principles available to stem from in further documents, as they follow world and European forestry management goals.
At present, a draft of "Concept of departmental policy for the period prior to joining EU" which includes also a concept of forestry management. The relationship between forestry management concept and forestry programme is following: while the concept generally visions the future, the forestry programme summarises concrete activities (projects) planned for the period coming. Each project heads with statement of goals and sets measures to achieve the goals. The projects are: 1. State forest administration, 2. Management of forests owned by the state, 3. Forestry research, 5. Forest management, 6. Economic aspects of forestry programme, 7. Forest owners associating, education and counselling, 8. Forest and immissions, 9. Forest and game, 10. Forest and timber, 11. Forestry education, 12. International co-operation.
Results aplication of fertilizer SILVAMIX
Vilém Podrázský, Jiří Remeš, Jiří Kratochvíl
Presented report documents the results of SILVAMIX fertilizers' effects in the second year after fertilization. Selected types of this fertilizer sort, i.e. powdered SILVAMIX MG and pelleted SILVAMIX FORTE (in the second year there were established also experiments with so called bricketted form of the same material) was studied in three particular cases: (a) amelioration of soils, soil fertility conservation and improvement of growth of planting stock in forest nurseries, (b) amelioration of plantations of site demanding species (broadleaves as well as fir) on sites degraded by spruce monocultures cultivation, and (c) in the immission areas (Jizerské hory Mts.). Results confirmed rapid effects of this fertilizer in the first year and better effectiveness comparing to classical, standard, rapidly soluble fertilizers.
Strophosoma melanogrannum Först. - neglected pest on young broadleaves and conifers.
Jaroslav Urban
In 1995-1997, there was registered an outburst of Strophosoma melanogrannum Först on pioneering rowans (Sorbus aucuparia) in forest district Polnička and Škrdlovice (belonging to Forest administration of Dr. R. Kinský's estates at Žďár n. S.). Defoliation and spotty dieback of rowans were mostly caused by chrysomel Gonioctena quinquepunctata F. weevil Phyllobius arborator Hbst. Weevil was considerably abundant in young beech plantations (where it was controlled with spraying 0.5 % of Cymbush 10 EC) and in young spruce stands. In controlled area the pest propagates parthenogenetically. Last year's beetles show at woody species from the end of April till September (most abundantly from May till July). Eggs are laid above all on woody species in one-layer groups in number of 2-70 eggs (22 in average). Females lay 40 -80 eggs in total. Rhizophagous larvae mature in the second half of July and the first half of August. In the extra warm and dry summer 1995 young beetles showed on woody species from August 5. till the end of October (they were the most frequent in the end of August and in September). During cold and rainy summer 1996 hardly one fifth (one third in 1997) of young beetles left pupal chambers. Last year's beetles consume 7 cm2 leaves in average, this year's ones only 4 cm2. Respective the lower this year's consumption and early winterizing in pupal chambers the damage caused by young beetles are significantly lower this year compared to the previous one.
